The Feature Codes Section Overview

Modified on Wed, Aug 14 at 4:25 PM

Description: The main purpose of this section is to activate and configure Feature Codes that you can use in via the Ooma Enterprise Desktop App.

Feature Codes are combinations of digits that can be dialed on a phone system dial pad to activate or get access to certain features or functions.

To activate any function listed in this section, simply select the corresponding checkbox. This will activate the field for entering the digit combination.

While default values are already set for each field, you also have the option to create custom codes for executing the selected function.

There are no specific requirements for the digit combinations that you can set.

Most of the features that you can find in this section are easily understood if you have already read the previous chapters of the documentation on the Phone System App documentation. Therefore, only the more complex or previously unexplained features will get a detailed explanation.

The features provided here are categorized into four sections:

  • Call Forward: in this section, you can enable various call-forwarding features and customize the digit combinations that can be used to access them via the Ooma Enterprise Desktop App.

  • Enable Call Forward: this feature code allows you to enable the Call Forwarding feature. Please enter the phone number you wish to forward all incoming calls to when prompted.
  • Disable Call Forward: this feature code allows you to disable the Call Forwarding feature.
  • Toggle Call Forward: this feature code lets you toggle the Call Forwarding feature on and off using the previously set phone number.
  • Update Call Forward: this feature code lets you update the phone number to which all incoming calls will be forwarded, without turning the feature on or off.

  • Do Not Disturb: in this section, you can assign feature codes to configure the Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. The DND mode is a phone feature that blocks incoming calls, ensuring you are not interrupted.

  • Enable Do Not Disturb: using the feature code set here, you can activate the DND mode.
  • Disable Do Not Disturb: using the feature code set here, you can deactivate the DND mode.
  • Toggle Do Not Disturb: this feature code lets you toggle the DND mode on and off.

  • Follow Me: in this section, you can assign feature codes to configure the Follow-Me feature. This feature enables you to route calls between your designated devices.

  • Hot-Desking: in this section, you can activate various hot-desking features and customize the digit combinations to access them.

Hot-desking is a feature in phone systems that enables multiple employees to use the same physical phone device by logging in with their individual credentials.

  • Enable Hot Desking: this feature code allows you to log in to a shared phone device using your own credentials. Please enter your Hot Desk ID when prompted.
  • Disable Hot Desking: this function logs you out of a shared phone device so that other users can log in and use it.
  • Toggle Hot Desking: this function allows you to switch between hot-desking mode and normal mode on a shared phone device.

  • Miscellaneous: this section is for miscellaneous features that don't fit into the other categories.

  • Check Voicemail: this feature allows you to access your voicemail system and listen to available voicemail messages. Enter your credentials when prompted.
  • Direct to Voicemail: this feature code allows you to forward calls directly to your voicemail without ringing your phone.
  • Intercom: this feature code lets you to make an intercom call, which allows for direct communication with another user or extension within the same system.
  • Privacy: dialing this feature code enables the privacy mode during a call, preventing other users from joining or intercepting your conversation.
  • Directed Extension Pickup: this feature code allows you to answer a call that is ringing at another extension within your system. Dial the extension number when prompted.
  • Check Voicemail (auto login): this feature code allows you to access your voicemail box without logging in and lets you configure various voicemail box settings. If this is your first time accessing the system, please follow the instructions for initial authorization.
  • Move: this feature is also known as the Call Flip feature. It allows users to transfer a live call from one device to another

  • Parking: in this section, you can activate and configure various call-parking features.

  • Park and Retrieve: this feature code allows you to put a call on hold and park it in a virtual parking slot. Dialing this feature code while the call is parked will retrieve it.
By default, the call will be placed in the first available parking slot. However, you can specify a particular slot by adding a number after the feature code. For example, if the feature code is *3, you would dial *35 to park a call in slot #5. Please note that if the resulting feature code with the parking slot conflicts with other feature codes you have set, the call will not be parked.

When you click on the gear badge situated next to the field, a pop-up window will appear, presenting additional parameters of the configured feature.

It's important to note that you won't be able to access the available parameters by clicking on the gear badge until you save all the changes made in the Feature Codes Section.

  • Ring Back Timeout: you can specify a duration in seconds for the pause before ringing back.
  • Call Back Timeout: here you can set a duration in seconds for the parker to be called when a call is put on hold.
In case you don't fill in these fields, the system will automatically apply the default values.

  • Valet:  this feature is a type of call park called "Valet Parking," where parked calls are automatically answered by an available agent or user when they dial the virtual extension where the call is parked. When you click on the gear badge situated next to the field, a pop-up window will appear, presenting additional parameters of the configured feature.

Once you have changed some parameters, do not forget to click the "SAVE" button to apply the changes.

The Phone System App will display a green badge with an exclamation mark next to any field that has been modified.
