Navigating the Account Hierarchy

Description: The process of switching between accounts for moving up and down the account tree.

Location of the Accounts App

After logging in to the Admin Panel, click on the "Apps" icon located in the Top Horizontal Menu Bar.

Upon clicking the "Apps" icon, you will be directed to a new page containing a list of apps integrated into the Admin Panel. To access the Accounts App, locate its name in the list and click on it.

The account Masquerade is a fundamental aspect of navigating the Account Hierarchy. As previously mentioned, the Ooma Enterprise system organizes accounts in a tree structure where parent accounts can access their sub-accounts, but not their ancestors. Masquerading allows you to log in to one account but imitate the identity of one of its child accounts, enabling you to perform actions within it.

As this series of articles progresses, the phrases 'log in' and 'masquerading' may be utilozed interchangeably.

There are two options how to log in to one of your child accounts:

  • The Top Menu of the Portal: you can view and access all child accounts from the top menu of the Accounts App. You can expand the tree in this menu by clicking on the arrow signs. By clicking on the name of the desired child account, you will log in under it.

The Top Menu of the Portal serves as a global component, allowing users to switch to other accounts not only in the Admin Portal but also in other applications, such as the Phone System App

  • The Table of Existing Accounts: you can find all your child accounts in the table of existing accounts on the main page of the Accounts App. Hovering the mouse over the line with the preferred child account will reveal the "Use Account" button.

To navigate up the Account Hierarchy, choose the "Back to Parent" option in the drop-down menu at the top. To return to the parent account, click the "Stop Masquerading" button.

Unlike the account tree presented in the Table of Existing Accounts, the tree found in the top menu is more efficient for navigating up and down the hierarchy. This is because the top menu allows you to access the parent account, which is not possible with the Table of Existing Accounts.
